5 YOGA TIPS FOR EMPATHS AND HIGHLY SENSITIVE PEOPLE (HSPs)

One thing I adore about yoga is that there are many ways that we can set intentions, to explore who we are and what area we want to work on. It keeps us grounded and helps us reflect on how we manage our daily energy.

Here are some yoga reflections that you can use for journal inspiration. As empaths/HSPs, these 5 core points act as a foundation in keeping us healthy on many levels – mind, body, soul and energy. It also helps balance our energy and stress levels which can prevent burnout.

Bring these 5 core points into your yoga practice – I will also include my favourite Kundalini yoga inspiration.

⒈ AWARENESS

Awareness is key. Awareness is consciously choosing to use our neutral mind to observe our daily life and how we move through it. We can adopt a yoga practice in our daily lives by exploring the 3 Functional Minds – We have the Positive (expansive) mind, the Negative (protective) mind and the Neutral (meditative/intuitive) mind. The Neutral mind evaluates the input of your Negative and Positive mind for guidance of the soul.

Every night, I invite you to write a list of things that you experienced and how it made your energy feel. Reflect on which functional mind you were using the most.

Yoga Tips & Reflections:

  • What inspired my energy today?
  • What drained my energy today?
  • Which functional mind did I connect with the most today?
  • Kundalini meditation Meditation for the neutral mind

⒉ RELEASE

Think about how many different types of exchanges you go through in one day. From the subtle energy exchanges to the physical material exchanges. If we are sensitive souls, we often feel the emotions, stress levels and energy of the spaces and people around us – as if it is our own.

Releasing control is a good place to start. We can’t control everything – However, we forget how important the things we can control in our lives become. This can be what we can focus on instead.

What we can’t control: What others say, the past, what others think, what others believe, how others behave, the energy of others and our environment, the weather, how other people respond to my boundaries

What we can control: My actions and responses, my boundaries, my beliefs, what I focus on, communicating my needs, how I respond to my emotions, living in alignment, people I choose as friends and connections, how I spend my free time

When we have an awareness of what we picked up, our energy exchanges and what we want to release, we can use this in our yoga practice to consciously choose to let go. This could be as simple as doing deep-releasing breathing exercises throughout your day when you have a few minutes.

Yoga Tips & Reflections:

  • What did I pick up today that I can now release?
  • What situations came up for me today that I do not need to control or take responsibility for?
  • Where am I holding on to stress and energy that is not mine in my body?
  • Kundalini yoga kriya Kriya for emotional balance

⒊ GROUNDED BOUNDARIES

As empaths and HSPs. healthy boundaries are the difference between feeling whole or feeling drained. So having healthy boundaries becomes an ongoing daily practice where we are clear about what we do or don’t want to engage in.

This often shows up as a reflection of our connections to others. People show us lessons that we need to learn about what our boundaries are like. Examples: As sensitive souls, many of us generally have leaky boundaries where the energy exchange is not a 2-way flow. Many of us are great at being a grounding force for others, take on other people’s stuff and forget to build our grounding force.

There are many ways that boundaries can come up. It’s important to remember that having healthy boundaries is an act of love – for our Self and others.

Yoga Tips & Reflections:

⒋ CREATIVITY & CURIOSITY

When was the last time you tried something new that made you beam with happiness? If you can’t remember or if it was a while ago, take this as a sign that it’s time to have fun with this!

Creativity is not all about the traditional ways of being creative (although it certainly can be too). Creativity is when you channel your energy into something that brings you joy and where time could fly by. It’s often the things we love to do as children, engaging in our inner child and play. As adults, we often forget this side of us.

It can also be all about something we feel passionate about – a calling, our purpose and a cause. This often inspires many yogis to return to activism and to take yoga out into the world by being part of active communities that are making a difference. After all, yoga is not just about what we do on our mat.

As sensitive souls, this is so important for recharging our energy. To connect and healthily channel our emotions while creating something meaningful in our life – and to others.

Yoga Tips & Reflections:

  • How can you bring this into your yoga practice and lifestyle?
  • How can I channel my emotions (energy in motion) in a healthy creative way?
  • Kundalini yoga kriya Set for creative flow and happiness

⒌ INTUITION

Our superpower is our strong intuition. But how often do you truly listen to it? In a world where logic, reason and external validation are often focused on, we can forget to value the inner intuitive voice. The part of our knowing that often does not have a logical explanation but points us in the right direction. Many times, the reason and logical manifestation happens afterwards.

A good way to hold space for your intuition is by asking questions throughout the day. Sometimes the answer comes up straight away – Sometimes it takes time and shows up when it is ready.

Yoga Tips & Reflections:

  • What is my intuition sharing with me today?
  • Where in my body do I feel my intuitive instinct?
  • Kundalini yoga kriya Kriya for becoming intuitive

Over time, these 5 core points will evolve and strengthen our energy as we thrive!
