Anxiety & Feeling Safe In Our Body – We are so much more than walking minds on a body… Here is a beautiful inner-view on the podcast I tune into… Exploring the Vagus nerve, anxiety and many more topics…
As a CBT therapist and yoga teacher, I have always been fascinated by the holistic approach to our nervous system and the mind-body connection. There are many ways we can explore this topic – From an astrological point of view where Uranus transits often connects to our nervous system, as well as the yogic perspective of living a holistic lifestyle… In our modern hectic daily life, this is an area worth exploring. The Vagus nerve plays a key part in this and with many connections to our health.
The vagus nerve is the longest cranial nerve in our body, running from the brain to the abdomen (which is why this nerve is often credited for being responsible for our mind-body connection). It is a major component of the autonomic nervous system (ANS), which itself is composed of three subsystems – the enteric nervous system (ENS), the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) and the sympathetic nervous system (SNS). Together these nervous systems contribute to the control and regulation of a huge variety of bodily functions, including mood, immune response, digestion, and heart rate.
Before you listen to this podcast, here is a reflection question for you: “Feeling safe“… What does that mean to you? The thing is this may not be as obvious as having a physical threat in our environment. We can also feel unsafe on a deep emotional level with many different triggers. I invite you to start by asking your Self where you feel unsafe on any level in your life.
